| I realize that weaknesses in our dollar (shaky real estate markets, wars, economy/job woes) inflate the value of Gold...but I'm not reacting to that.
A year ago, gold was selling for between $700-$850/oz and last November we had many of the problems we have today.
As I write this, Gold has skyrocketed to an unbelievable $1170/oz.
It touched $1200/oz earlier today.

here This one is called "How High Can Gold Go" and, again, as a counterpoint, it makes you think gold is actually REASONABLY priced.
A friend recommended a few funds that specialize in profiting in banks and real estate (two different funds) when things go bad. I'm now deciding on investing in those or shorting gold...

| Great points Dave. Although I don't have any actual evidence as to when the gold market will crash, it is inevitable. The fact that any soccer mom can hawk her old gold suggests that either the gold market will be flooded, or that the gold will be burrowed away to keep the market artificially high. free market economy my arse. I believe the next big thing, will be the energies futures market for renewable energies (solar, wind, water, etc). I forsee in the next 10 years, partially due to the green initiatives world wide, we'll see a spike in investments and that will be the next market to inflate. |

| So this golf trophy has been sitting in my dining room for the past year (which means i must have won last year) and since gbarr/ned will be gaining another year into "old age," I think its time we put another golf/poker weekend together. September seemed to work well last year since we had a decent turn out... "cough" gbarr "cough" .... I am thinking the weekend of the 15/16th but to be honest I am free pretty much any weekend in September so we can take imput from the group to see what works best. I am also thinking we do it again here in CT since it is nice and central to most people but I don't mind driving elsewhere if we wanted to switch it up. The pool will still be open and we can grill up some steaks, burgers, dogs, ect..... Since Kristen donated this lovely trophy last year we are now all obligated to do this again... Let me know what ya think?? |

I still rein as the #1 DSN golfer (Tiger Ned the call me now)... so if you feel you have the nerve to challenge my greatness then all you need to do is show up... right now the best weekends are looking like either Sept 26-27 or Oct 3-4. Well, then I'll elaborate on my news from a while back -- but not too much, as I made this a public thread. In October, I'll begin work on a two-issue stint for a comic book title from IDW Publishing (they currently handle the comics for Transformers, GI Joe, Angel, 30 Days of Night, Doctor Who, Star Trek, etc). I can't say specifically what I'll be working on until the book is solicited (and it won't be published until March of '10), but I can say my art has been approved by the BBC.
Past that, I've just been trying to pick up all the freelance work I can (which isn't much) as I can't seem to get a 9 to 5 anywhere in the UV. Just gotta make it to October (or more precisely November) and everything will be better. And all the doors will start opening up at that point. |

I use a program called ConvertXtoDVD, there may be others out there but this one worked to just directly burn some images I had. So far it's worked with every file type I've thrown at it. The demo will add a watermark (that also causes the encoding time to pretty much double). A lot of places try to sell it for $50 but this place had it for $35 if you want to register.
