| Hrm. I must have felt something in the force to randomly check DSN. Did anyone create a disturbance in the force?
Up in Maine for the 4th weekend.
Gbarr- If you crash Val's wedding, tell me how my brother looks in his new suit.
Prouty- I'll be power-walking the wooded walk. |

| Yeah, I actually have DSN on my bookmark bar, so I click through pretty frequently... just haven't seen much up lately, and haven't had a lot to say unfortunately(a lot of you guys see me every day in IRC as well). It will be nice to see a little more life on the site though.
Thanks for fixing the notifications trolld, definitely going to help. Also oMaT for working on that new template ;).
Let me know if there's anything I can do to help. |

| DSN back in the hizzle! Great to see some life on this site again.
I'm in the UV for the July 4th holiday weekend - perhaps even crashing Val's wedding. Prouty ride the following weekend and family reunion after that...
Summer just seems to get booked up so fast, dang. |
| | July 4th | | Gaul's reply on Jun 23rd 2009 10:44am EDT |
| I am likely tied up for the 3rd with my sisters' wedding, and have cleanup stuff on the 4th. I may be able to hang around in the UV for a bit on Saturday 7.4, but we'll see. have a good one Ryan. |

| | 4th of July BBQ | | ryan's reply on Jun 22nd 2009 10:04pm EDT |
| Since this site has come alive again just throwing out an invite for Saturday the 4th... BBQ kicking off around 1pm and everyone is invited if you would like to make the trip to CT. Wives, girlfriends, kids, mistresses.... all are welcome and all are welcome to crash for the night as well. |

Cool. People.
Well, then I'll elaborate on my news from a while back -- but not too much, as I made this a public thread. In October, I'll begin work on a two-issue stint for a comic book title from IDW Publishing (they currently handle the comics for Transformers, GI Joe, Angel, 30 Days of Night, Doctor Who, Star Trek, etc). I can't say specifically what I'll be working on until the book is solicited (and it won't be published until March of '10), but I can say my art has been approved by the BBC.
Past that, I've just been trying to pick up all the freelance work I can (which isn't much) as I can't seem to get a 9 to 5 anywhere in the UV. Just gotta make it to October (or more precisely November) and everything will be better. And all the doors will start opening up at that point. |

| | redesign | | Gaul's reply on Jun 22nd 2009 10:26am EDT |
| Jon/Adam,
with respect to your themes, do you have a dev page, for us simple folk to preview? I'd love to see what's in the works |
| | Progress | | oMaT's reply on Jun 22nd 2009 10:02am EDT |
| Actually, I am on the case for the redesign. I know, I know - I'm a slow bastard. Anyway I have several potential themes that I think would work ranging from the very elaborate to the fairly simple. In the next couple days I hope to narrow it down to one or two candidates and then trolld and I can figure out who wins. (Unless he hates all of em.) Suffice to say, progress is being made. |

| | nice ned | | Gaul's reply on Jan 17th 2009 10:23pm EST |
| nice Ned.
I have experience with DVDFab, it works quite well, although I am into VUSE, a torrent client, which allows you to Download from thePiratebay.org all the AVI files you will ever need. I have seen many of the movies in the theaters, from the comfort of my PS3 and home theater system. by the way, this message will self destruct in 10 seconds |

| Silly Doug... like always I'm one step ahead of you... Jay, look at Jon's Log from 9/24/08... he has a link he setup for me called "DVDFab Platinum v5.0.9.0"... it should handle your needs with no problem... I use it to put movies on my blackberry but also does DVD to DVD and a host of other functions including avi. conversion... thank Jon-Boy and enjoy!! |
| | ConverXtoDVD | | busk's reply on Jan 16th 2009 12:49pm EST |
I use a program called ConvertXtoDVD, there may be others out there but this one worked to just directly burn some images I had. So far it's worked with every file type I've thrown at it. The demo will add a watermark (that also causes the encoding time to pretty much double). A lot of places try to sell it for $50 but this place had it for $35 if you want to register.

| So the Barr family spent Christmas 2008 in the Dominican Republic at a resort in Punta Cana. It didn't take Alan "The Mayor" long to make friends with everyone and we found ourselves having a good time with a number of our fellow vacationers. Of course, this was a big resort so we ran into a couple of jackasses as well. One such run in was captured in all its glory...

| I came across this TV show Legend of the Seeker. It is a loose representation of the "Sword of Truth" book series by Terry Goodkind. The director is the same as Xena: Warrior Princess I believe. As far as acting goes, it is 3/5, but if you want something to pass the time, I recommend it. The ABC affiliates in your local area WMUR at 12:05 Sundays. good stuff |

| Well yeah, now that I think about it Gore would be a great Secretary of State. Taking a step back...
Woot! Obama in the hizouse!
Cambridge was a raucous party too - car horns, people hanging out windows, drunken Democrats abound. What a difference hope can make. And now the real work begins. Dismantling eight years of cronyism and abysmal foreign policy will take time. Getting out of Iraq will take time. Universal healthcare, improvements in the education system, renewable energy, etc. all take more than 100 days. So long as we stay the course (remember that line?) we'll be fine.
I too am proud to be an American again. |
| | Huh | | trolld's reply on Nov 12th 2008 4:10am EST |
| Interesting article J ... I for one would be on board with Gore as SoS .. I think the argument he makes is most compelling as well.
Kerry is great, but I think Gore would be a better choice given "Today's Issues".
To hear of merit pay for teachers is also music to my ears. I firmly believe nothing will change in our education system until that is fixed. Its only job in the world where "trying your best" is rewarded vs. actually doing you job effectively. You get raises for essentially not quitting every year. Not a big shock our schools suck on the whole with that kind of mentality. |

| So oMaT and I were walking about Akihabara (whoot) here in Tokyo and we got stopped by a TV crew with Kyodo TV and were interviewed ... specifically they wanted to know what we thought of the election and more to the point if Obama could pull off the change he's been promising.
Its apparent that lots of people here (which I found surprising but I guess I should) have been waiting just as long for GW to leave as we have.
Wish we had a clip .. though oMaT says I hammed it up anyway ;-D |

| Just a quick FYI for those of you who like to watch video on your PCs (so, all of you). VideoLan has just released a new and apparently vastly improved version of their media player, VLC. While I've traditionally preferred BSPlayer for my media, I've recently begun using VLC occasionally and, if the reports are right about this new version, supposedly most of the stuff I found (hugely) annoying has been fixed. If so, I might actually migrate. The VLC servers are a bit bogged at the moment so I snagged a copy and put it up on Shodan. Enjoy. |

| I definitely felt like the production out shined the plot for sure, which I'd give a 10/10 on both.
Scanner Darkly is the next thing in my queue oddly enough! (haven't seen it yet). |
| | 7.5/10 | | Bernat's reply on Aug 21st 2008 9:56pm EDT |
| Visuals were stunning (it took 6 years to make!) and the voice work is top notch but I found the plot recycled beyond belief.
I preferred Linklater's take on Phillip K. Dick's "Scanner Darkly" but Renaissance is absolutely worth a watch. |
