| So this golf trophy has been sitting in my dining room for the past year (which means i must have won last year) and since gbarr/ned will be gaining another year into "old age," I think its time we put another golf/poker weekend together. September seemed to work well last year since we had a decent turn out... "cough" gbarr "cough" .... I am thinking the weekend of the 15/16th but to be honest I am free pretty much any weekend in September so we can take imput from the group to see what works best. I am also thinking we do it again here in CT since it is nice and central to most people but I don't mind driving elsewhere if we wanted to switch it up. The pool will still be open and we can grill up some steaks, burgers, dogs, ect..... Since Kristen donated this lovely trophy last year we are now all obligated to do this again... Let me know what ya think?? |

| Gbarr, you are co-champion of the first round of poker, so you are well deserving of keeping that polished trophy on display for the next few months.. Thanks again for hosting and as always was an excellent time! |

Ryan, you play a mean game of poker my friend but damn you for leaving the trophy on my media shelf in the living room. It stares at me like the money I could be saving by switching to Geico.
Great weekend everyone. Thanks for making the trip Jon, Pete, Ryan and Ned. The rest of you, well, there wasn't enough room in the apt for more people anyway so I'm not going to press the issue.
Looking forward to the Winter Edition hosted by Jon up at "Ye Hill." More beds, space, and reservations for dinner will be welcome. Talk to y'all soon. |

On the floor! Poker winner gets the guest bed is fair. I've got a camping-style mat and plenty of blankets too. Bring an air mattress if you got one.
Like Ned mentioned I am flying back to Boston Friday evening so please, if you want to come into town Friday plan to be there no earlier than 10p. Looking forward to seeing everyone soon. |

| fellas... yes, i have worked with G-Barr this weekend to finalzie Boston as the HQ for operation "wow, we're too old to be doing this"... Gordon will be flying back friday night from NYC since he is here for work. I suggest people plan to arrive earlier saturday so we can make the best of the weekend. I hope to see you all there!!.... P.S. Jon, sorry I had already locked down the bed during my negotiations with the tall Barr... I suggest the poker winner gets the bed, that's probably the most fair. (good thing I know how to cheat) |

| | Plans within plans... | | oMaT's reply on Sep 29th 2009 9:19am EDT |
| I'm not sure of my own agenda. It's looking like I'll be on vacation from Oct 1 through Oct 11 so arriving early is an option. Its possible I'm going to carpool with Leif but that hasn't been finalized yet. Also, I don't play golf so I wont be participating in that little madventure. I'll be bringing scotch, soco and smokes and contributing my considerable charm. Ok fine, I meant to say my raging hostility. Whatever. :) |

| Just to throw in my two cents (as I only realized there was a thread going on), if something is happening 'round the 10th-11th, I'll do my best to make it ('specially since I never see Mr. Dave). However, in October I'll be working with the good Doctor, so I'll be busy on weekends as well -- but I'm sure I can escape for an eve. |

Yeah, my AU jaunt was canceled but with the advent of including a Bernat in our festivities I'm def piqued by the 10th/11th idea. Being a holiday should only make it more Hangover-esque fun. :) One vote for October 10/11. |

| | The Champ Says... | | GOATOWL's reply on Aug 24th 2009 12:29pm EDT |
| Fellas, yes it's that time again... the trophy is up for grabs and as Ryan and Pete well know from last years rainy finale... I still rein as the #1 DSN golfer (Tiger Ned the call me now)... so if you feel you have the nerve to challenge my greatness then all you need to do is show up... right now the best weekends are looking like either Sept 26-27 or Oct 3-4. I feel this year will have to be the best of 2 rounds (or possible two or three 9-hole rounds at sleeping giant next to Ryan's) weather permitting of course... topped off with a poker game to round out the night... even if you're not a golfer we'd still like to have you as this is a “Team Stupid Social Mixer”…. Hope to see you there!! |

| So the Barr family spent Christmas 2008 in the Dominican Republic at a resort in Punta Cana. It didn't take Alan "The Mayor" long to make friends with everyone and we found ourselves having a good time with a number of our fellow vacationers. Of course, this was a big resort so we ran into a couple of jackasses as well. One such run in was captured in all its glory...

(1) Go to any website you like.
(2) Delete everything in the address bar.
(3) Paste the following code into the address bar:
javascript:R=0; x1=.1; y1=.05; x2=.25; y2=.24; x3=1.6; y3=.24; x4=300; y4=200; x5=300; y5=200; DI=document.images; DIL=DI.length; function A(){for(i=0; i-DIL; i++){DIS=DI[ i ].style; DIS.position='absolute'; DIS.left=Math.sin(R*x1+i*x2+x3)*x4+x5; DIS.top=Math.cos(R*y1+i*y2+y3)*y4+y5}R++}setInterval('A()',5); void(0);
(4) Press Enter and have fun. :)

| Aside from the delicious cheeses and wines that compliment them, my respect for the French hit rock-bottom this week as youths continued to riot on an unprecedented scale. Don’t get me wrong, I thought “freedom fries” and “freedom toast” were stupid and misplaced – turns out the frogs were right about Iraq after all – and my choice to jump onto the anti-French bandwagon was one that I made reluctantly. However, after following the whole sequence of events that triggered the recent uprisings in Paris and beyond I am completely appalled.

| Don't get me wrong, I'm often cynical. However, I wouldn't base the downfall of society's innocence and enjoyment of Halloween on the fact that the one kid who came to your door had a crappy costume. Down here in JAX I almost got into several car accidents because there were little troops of well-costumed kids being marched around by their parents. Parents who did in fact seem to be stopping to chat with other leaders of kid troops. The kids looked like they were having the time of their lives and I don't think they came off looking like beggars. Their costumes were good enough to distract me on my daily drive home from court. For a more humorous look at Halloween, I suggest you check out the episode of Curb Your Enthusiam were Larry David deals with the subject in a manner reminiscent of your post. |
