02/20 2:26pm | Nice | Cool set of tests and very provocative research. I missed the part about being "a racist bastard" though. But then I didn't find any interpretations of my results to be a threat to my self... |
01/18 11:48am | Spider | Thanks, Dave. An excellent example of why Heidi is in Canada for Communications Studies. |

11/30 11:22am | Gap Seal | Actually, it isn't a critical repair. He's repairing a gap seal. You can see the seal along the whole wing span. Gap seals improve wing efficiency at cruise speeds (ie, burns less fuel if it stays on). Duct tape doesn't hold up in rain, so it probably wasn't the monsoon season. Gap seals are an after-market item for a lot of light planes. I've heard of owners using duct tape to try it out, before deciding on buying an FAA-approved kit. Safety Note: The approved kits don't contain duct tape. Duct tape is not an FAA-approved material for any purpose on any US-registered aircraft. And it messes up the paint job when removed. |
11/06 7:00am | Phone | Thanks Gbar. I notice you say numbers will be released in 8 days and the site says a number must be listed for 31 days before telemarketers are required to honor a listing. I wonder how many calls I'll get in the remaining 23 days... |
11/02 7:13am | X | Good luck on the talks, Nowhere, and make it fun. I just flew back from Frisco. Do you have a seat assignment both ways? If not, plan on getting to the ticket counter at least an hour (earlier is better). Don't go to the gate without a seat assigned cause the gate agents show up about 45 minutes or so before the flight, and that'll be too late. ALL, I mean ALL, flights are overbooked these days - or the flight is removed from the schedule as soon as possible. Flying is the preferred method of travel no one can afford, not even the airlines. |
09/05 5:34pm | Monkey Business | Monkey started at Concordia University today. I hope she files a full report, including free drinks for women at the Student Union. |
06/04 8:15am | Noonan Article | Re:Noonan/WSJ article - This fact is overlooked: the two parties have shown that the current party system has failed, at least twice, due to inherent human behavior. Noonan never, nor anyone else I've read so far, touches the question of how creating a new party will overcome the same basic behavior of a human. Given authority and opportunity over a long enough span of time, he/she will eventually use that authority for personal gain over the common good. It's common to feel the job doesn't pay enough, the personal satisfaction isn't enough, from time to time. Some people just feel entitled to whatever they can get. The results range from stealing office supplies to invading another country. I'm sorry, but if that's how you're going to behave, you're not fit to govern. It has nothing to do with democracy as a form of government. It has nothing to do with the number of political parties. "It's your behavior, stupid." should be the election slogan. |

05/17 9:24am | cars | Our neighbors did the restoration of the Doctor's Coupe, right here on Terry Hill Rd. It won first place Place de la Concourse at Palm Springs two years ago. It is a sweet thing under the hood, too. But then, aren't all B's from the mid-30's. |
11/30 10:07am | Flying | Pumpkin displosal. |
05/31 8:38am | Dessert Race | Remember the clip posted a while back of a full size R/C car running through the dessert. This is what it's all about. "DARPA's rules explicitly forbid attacking the other vehicles." |

10/30 6:37pm | Nothern Lights | Just came in from good 30 minute opening show after sundown (in Fairlee, VT). This should be a great night for seeing the northern lights through the night. Good red and green rays from horizon to overhead, pulses, etc. |
10/24 1:12pm | Beaver Moon | Thanks, Qaz. Full Beaver Moon on November 9. It will be eclipsed early in the evening, but take heart - the rest of the night it will shine brightly. |
10/09 9:17pm | Tiger | Doug, that's terrific! Were you there? Did you record that yourself? |
10/02 11:20am | Guns | Three questions. Does any DSN member, besides me, own a gun right now? Should we ban from society possession of any substance because an extremely small fraction of society doesn't know how to handle it? Since we're all personally familiar at how difficult it is to enforce prohibitions, are there alternatives that could actually be better enforced and provide a realistic improvement in the current situation? I've always felt prohibitions are society's way of doing the least amount of work, with the promise of the best results. It wasn't a capitalist fucker how wrote "There ain't no such thing as a free lunch." It was SF writer R.H. Heinlein. The undisputed greatest SF writer of all time. (But he'd say that was Doc Smith.) (I'm going for nowhere's record here.) I've always felt people who resort to bans to solve problems are expecting a free lunch. |
08/15 9:21am | no power=no spam | Looking over my overnight mail, I noticed no spam. None. First time I've received less than ten messages overnight, ever. Guess the power outage took out the right servers, anyway. |
06/11 6:37am | Pants Police | Well, thanks for the heads up, troll. If I'm told I can't wear blue jeans (after an unblemished 7-year history), I'll ask for complete specifications, a budget, and the deadline for the implementation plan. It could easily turn out to be the toughest project I ever worked on. |
